Experts Identify Kremlin Fear Campaign Targeting Cruise Missile Use

Russian authorities is conducting a psychological influence initiative of intimidations to prevent the America from supplying long-range missiles to Kyiv, according to defense experts. A high-ranking official remarked: “We know these missiles thoroughly, their operational characteristics, how to shoot them down, we encountered them in the Syrian conflict, so there is nothing new. Only those who supply them and those who use them will encounter difficulties … We will develop strategies to hurt those who cause us trouble.”

Kyiv's Defensive Operations Progress

Kyiv's troops were inflicting heavy losses in a strategic push in eastern Ukraine, the war's main theatre, Ukraine's leader said on midweek. Zelenskyy's assessment, derived from a briefing from his senior military officer, differed from Vladimir Putin's address to senior Russian officers a previous day in which he asserted the invading army possessed the strategic initiative in every combat zone.

Based on evaluation covering October's first week, conflict monitors said Russia was suffering significant losses, especially due to drone strikes by Ukraine, in compensation of small operational progress. Kyiv's troops, the president stated, were “protecting our positions along various sectors”, highlighting especially Kupiansk, a largely destroyed town in north-eastern Ukraine under intense attacks for an extended period.

Local Conditions

The regional governor in Ukraine's southern region of Kherson said military strikes on Wednesday killed three people in and around the urban center of Kherson city. Administrative officials of northern Sumy, on the northern border with the Russian Federation, said three fatalities occurred in UAV assaults in multiple locations. Ukraine's air force said it intercepted or jammed most of the Russian strike and decoy drones during the night.

A Russian attack significantly harmed a Ukrainian energy facility, authorities said on midweek. Two employees were wounded in the assault, based on information from energy company officials. Officials offered limited details, about the plant's location, but national sources said strikes hit power facilities in Ukraine's northern Chernihiv, southern Kherson and south-eastern Dnipropetrovsk regions.

Public Consequences

In the northern Ukrainian city of Shostka, significantly damaged by the military campaign against the electrical grid, local government has created emergency spaces where civilians are able to seek warmth, access hot drinks, power electronic devices and receive psychological support, as reported by administrative leader.

International Reactions

The Ukrainian diplomat to Nato on Wednesday encouraged European allies to increase acquisitions of US weapons for Ukrainian forces. “This doesn't mean we prefer US equipment rather than European or other international equipment – the issue is that we are requesting the US for weapons which European countries don't possess,” said the ambassador.

German federal police will shortly receive authorization to intercept drones, interior minister said on midweek, after a spate of unmanned aircraft incidents suspected as Moscow's attempts to spy and intimidate. Unveiling a draft law, the minister said law enforcement would receive permission “to implement advanced technological measures against UAV risks, including EMP technology, electronic interference, satellite signal blocking, but also with physical means”.

European Protection Challenges

EU chief stated on midweek that the European Union should enhance its protective capabilities to deter complex threat operations in response to airspace breaches, cyber-attacks and damage to undersea cables. “This doesn't represent coincidental events. This represents a systematic and intensifying operation,” the official said in a speech to the European parliament. “Two incidents are coincidence, but multiple, repeated, numerous – that represents a planned and specific ambiguous warfare operation against the European Union, and the EU needs to react.”

Refugee Conditions

The Swiss authorities has continued its temporary shelter offered to displaced Ukrainians to at least early 2027. Protection status S, which permits refugees to journey internationally as well as work in Switzerland, is generally limited to one year but can be extended. “This determination demonstrates the ongoing unstable environment and ongoing military actions across extensive regions of the country,” said a Swiss government statement. “Notwithstanding international peace efforts, a permanent peace that would permit secure repatriation is not anticipated in the foreseeable future.”
