Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the initial candidates in the frame to succeed Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was sacked on the weekend after the squad's ten-game winless beginning to the Premier League campaign.

And both candidates - each of whom have previous links to the team - are among the options to be evaluated by the Wolves leadership.

Edwards is currently at another club, which would pose a possible obstacle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the ex- Luton head coach - who made more than 100 of games for Wolves during his time as a player - is considered a strong contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the club board as they begin the process of appointing a new manager.

Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected contender, even though he would be a surprising choice considering he was sacked by Wolves in the previous winter.

The ex- West Ham player is out of work which means Wolves would not need to provide any buyout fee.
